The Estonian medicinal products market was 679 million EEK (43,4 million EUR) in wholesale prices in the third quarter of 2009.
The sales divide amongst general pharmacies, hospital pharmacies and other institutions (generally state- and scientific institutions). Compared to the III quarter of 2008 the sales to general pharmacies decreased by 1,7%, over the counter (OTC) sales dropped 8,8% and prescription only medicines (POM) increased by 1,5%. In total the sales to general pharmacies were 524 million EEK (33,5 million EUR) in the third quarter of 2009. To the hospital pharmacies medicinal products worth 130 million EEK (8,3 million EUR) were sold, which is 8,6% less than in the III quarter of 2008.
In addition to human medicinal products market the State Agency of Medicines compiles statistical reports about veterinary products market.
In the third quarter of 2009 14 wholesalers sold veterinary medicines to veterinary- and general pharmacies, veterinarians and other institutions (generally state- and scientific institutions).
The Estonian veterinary medicinal products market was in wholesale prices in the III quarter of 2009 34 million EEK (2,2 million EUR), which is 2% more than in the III quarter of 2008.
Compared to the third quarter of the previous year sales to the veterinarians decreased by 15% and to the veterinary pharmacies by 11%. Sales to the general pharmacies increased by 8%. Sales to the state- and scientific institutions increased especially, constituting to the total veterinary products sale 0,4 million EEK (25 000 EUR) in the III quarter of 2008 and 5,5 million EEK (350 000 EUR) in 2009.
