    Estonian medicinal products market in fourth quarter 2013

    In the fourth quarter of 2013 the human and veterinary medicinal products market in wholesale prices was 61.8 million Euros which shows 2% increase comparing to previous year’s same period.

    Human medicinal products market was 59.4 million Euros which shows 2% increase.

    Sales to general pharmacies covered 72% and sales to hospital pharmacies 27% of total wholesale turnover. Sales to other institutions, i.e. state and scientific institutions was modest, being 1% of total sales.

    The proportion of prescription sales was 84% which comparing to over the counter sales (15%) and hospital package sales (1%) covered most of the medicinal products market turnover in fourth quarter 2013.

    The Estonian veterinary medicinal products market was 2.4 million Euros in wholesale prices in the fourth quarter of 2013. Compared to the fourth quarter in 2012, the turnover increased 5%.

    94% of veterinary medicines were sold to the veterinarians or to the agricultural companies represented by a veterinarian, 2% to the veterinary pharmacies, 3% to the general pharmacies and nearly 1% of veterinary medicines were sold to other institutions (generally state- and scientific institutions).

    Human medicines were sold to general and hospital pharmacies as well as to other institutions by 27 wholesalers. There were 9 wholesalers who sold veterinary medicinal products.
