Human medicines
The Estonian human medicinal products market was 136 million euros in wholesale prices in the second quarter of 2025. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the turnover increased 7%. The market of human medicines by quarter during last five years is on Figure 1.

During Q2 2025 there were 25 licensed medicinal product wholesalers, who distributed human medicines to general or hospital pharmacies or to other institutions in Estonia. Sales to general pharmacies covered 72.3%, sales to hospital pharmacies 27.1% and sales to other institutions 0.6% of total medicinal products market.
The sales of prescription medicines covered 88% and the sales of over-the-counter medicines 12% of the pharmaceutical market.
The most used medicines by DDD/1000/day were cardiovascular system medicines (522 DDD/1000/day), followed by alimentary tract and metabolism medicines (217 DDD/1000/day) and nervous system medicines (176 DDD/1000/day). These three ATC groups covered 65% of overall medicines consumption in Estonia in Q2 2025. Altogether 1326 different active substances were marketed and the most used active substances were Rosuvastatin (76 DDD/1000/day), Ramipril (52 DDD/1000/day), and Atorvastatin (51 DDD/1000/day).
The most sold medicines by turnover were antineoplastic and immunomodulating agents (36 million euros), alimentary tract and metabolism medicines (21 million euros) and anti-infectives for systemic use (13 million euros). The market share of these three ATC groups was altogether 51%

Veterinary medicines
The Estonian veterinary medicinal products market was 5.9 million euros in wholesale prices in the second quarter of 2025. Compared to the same period of the previous year the turnover decreased 2%. From the overall sales, 87% of veterinary medicines were sold to the veterinarians or to the agricultural companies represented by a veterinarian, and 13% to the general and veterinary pharmacies.

The most sold medicines by turnover were antiparasitic products and immunologicals, followed by antiinfectives for systemic use, accounting for 33%, 22% and 14% of total veterinary medicines sales, respectively.
