Human medicines
The Estonian human medicinal products market was 150 million euros in wholesale prices in the second quarter of 2026. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the turnover increased 10.5%. The market of human medicines by quarter during last five years is on Figure 1.

During Q2 2026 there were 24 licensed medicinal product wholesalers, who distributed human medicines to general or hospital pharmacies or to other institutions in Estonia. Sales to general pharmacies covered 71.6%, sales to hospital pharmacies 27.9% and sales to other institutions 0.5% of total medicinal products market. The sales of prescription medicines covered 90% and the sales of over-the-counter medicines 10% of the pharmaceutical market.
The most sold medicines by turnover were antineoplastic and immunomodulating agents (42 million euros), alimentary tract and metabolism medicines (24 million euros) and medicines for nervous system (14 million euros). The market share of these three ATC groups was altogether 53%
The most used medicines by DDD/1000/day were cardiovascular system medicines (543 DDD/1000/day), followed by alimentary tract and metabolism medicines (225 DDD/1000/day) and nervous system medicines (191 DDD/1000/day). These three ATC groups covered 66% of overall medicines consumption in Estonia in Q2 2026. Altogether 1356 different active substances were marketed, and the most used active substances were Rosuvastatin (83 DDD/1000/day), Atorvastatin (54 DDD/1000/day) and Ramipril (51 DDD/1000/day). The total consumption of human medicines was 1449 DDD/1000/day, being 3% higher than in Q2 2025 (Figure 2).

Veterinary medicines
The Estonian veterinary medicinal products market was 6.1 million euros in wholesale prices in the second quarter of 2026. Compared to the same period of the previous year the turnover increased 3%. From the overall sales, 86% of veterinary medicines were sold to veterinarians or to the agricultural companies represented by a veterinarian, and 14% to the general and veterinary pharmacies.

The most sold medicines by turnover were antiparasitic products, followed by immunologicals and antiinfectives for systemic use, accounting for 37%, 19% and 13% of total veterinary medicines sales, respectively.
