The Agency collects and analyses drug utilization data to obtain an overview of the medicinal products market, the distribution of medicinal product sales, sold and consumed medicines, and the activities of pharmacies. Statistical reports are generated at the national level.
The data are collected from wholesalers (including both human and veterinary medicines) and pharmacies, resulting in three main statistical reports:
- Statistics on human medicines – based on wholesale reports on human medicines;
- Statistics on veterinary medicines – based on wholesale reports on veterinary medicines;
- Pharmacy statistics – based on general, hospital, and veterinary pharmacy reports.
The Statistics Bureau of the State Agency of Medicines has compiled reviews of Estonian drug statistics since 1994. Pharmacy statistics were added in 2002, and since 2006 the data have been regularly published in Statistical Yearbooks. The first editions were printed, but in recent years we have moved entirely to e-publications.
This year’s book also includes a dedicated chapter on antibiotic statistics.
The Statistical Yearbook of 2025 and previous editions are available on the State Agency of Medicines website HERE.
