A tool for evaluation of invented names for medicinal products in Estonia is now available

30.06.2023 | 09:34

From now on the tool for evaluation of invented names for medicinal products in Estonia called INNA is available for use at the State Agency of Medicines’ webpage under the E-Services.

The purpose of INNA is to ease the selection of the new invented names for the medicinal products in Estonia. INNA is applicable only for evaluation of the proposed invented name for the medicinal product and it is not intended for the product names consisting INN accompanied by MAH or trademark.

INNA can be used by the State Agency of Medicines’ specialists as well as by the marketing authorisation holders and applicants of the medicinal products. The tool is available both in Estonian and English.

In addition to the evaluation made by INNA, the applicant should also consider all aspects specified in the  Guideline for the naming of medicinal products. The final acceptance of the name will be always confirmed only after submission of the relevant Application for Marketing Authorisation or Variation Application for Marketing Authorisation.

The tool’s name was made up from the word „Invented Name“. The owner of the tool is The State Agency of Medicines.

The creation and further development of INNA prototype took place with the support of the European Union Structural Funds. We would like to thank the developer STACC OÜ, TEHIK and the representatives of the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in Estonia!
